Cooler Labor Day in Oregon, then heat wave returns

0

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A big cool down is on the way to Portland metro for Labor Day, but it will be short-lived.

The Oregon Coast and the metro area could see a stray rain shower or two into the early hours of Monday. Plus, throughout our lunchtime on Labor Day, the metro area could see a spotty rain shower.

Along with a potential to see some drizzle for Labor Day, our daytime highs will be much cooler as the forecast calls for 74 degrees in Portland.

While the metro area sees mild conditions on Monday, portions of southern Oregon will be under a Red Flag Warning from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. due to the gusty and dry conditions. This does include Klamath Falls and Lakeview with the low relative humidity down into the teens.

The cooler and cloudier conditions won't last long though as the summer heat looks to build again by mid-week. Thursday is the day we'll see the peak of the heat as we flirt with the triple digits for a daytime high.

Thursday is an alert day to help everyone prepare for daytime highs to climb back into the upper 90s -- or as some weather models are saying -- we could surpass 100 degrees on Thursday.

But first, we'll enjoy the mid-70s as we wrap up our extended weekend.
