Postecoglou insists Spurs will get their rewards sooner rather than later
Ange Postecoglou is frustrated at the fact that Tottenham threw away points at St James’ Park but he is confident that his side will get their deserved rewards if they keep playing as well as they are.
Tottenham played well but dropped points… again
The game at Newcastle followed a predictable pattern for Spurs, who dominated possession and bossed proceedings for much of the encounter.
However, they were extremely wasteful in the final third, with their last pass and finish once again letting them down. Meanwhile, they gave away a couple of poor goals at the other end, with the home side cutting through them too easily on both occasions.
Postecoglou will hardly be able to believe that his side have only come away with one point from their two away games so far, given the performances they put in those two matches.
Postecoglou says Tottenham’s time will come
The Tottenham coach admitted that a defeat is a bitter pill to swallow, considering the dominance and the chances that his side had.
The Australian said after the 2-1 loss (via The Standard): “Another one that got away from us. We played well enough, certainly had the chances to win the game comfortably but you walk away with nothing, so [it’s a] bitter pill to swallow but it is what it is.
“We created chances and if you don’t get the second goal when you have the momentum…I thought we were in control of the game, we were playing in their half. The keepers pulled off a couple of really good saves.
“We had the opportunities to test him even further but we didn’t. The amount of chances we have, we really should be getting more than what we’re getting as a return at the moment.
“The positives are our football was good and has been good in all three games. We have to get the rewards for our football and what I do know is that if we continue to play like that we will get our rewards.”
Spurs Web Opinion
At this stage of the season, performances matter more than results do, which is why Spurs fans should not be too downbeat about yesterday’s result.
While the same problems in the final third continue to persist, there is a definite improvement from last season in terms of the control we have over matches. Not a lot of sides will go to St James’ Park and play as well as we did.
