Is Usha Vance's Hindu identity an asset or a liability to the Trump-Vance campaign?
Usha Vance's presence in the Trump-Vance campaign has energized some Indian Americans, particularly Hindu American conservatives. South Asians largely identify as Democrats. But there are divisions within some Indian American communities within over issues such as taxes, education, relations with India and anti-caste legislation that gained momentum in Seattle and California. Usha Vance — despite speaking openly about her Hindu upbringing — has been coy about discussing her own faith and her interfaith relationship with vice presidential candidate JD Vance. This has led some to question whether the Republican Party — which is mostly Christian — is ready to see people from other faith traditions in leadership roles.
