Pakistan on the brink of historical Test series defeat to Bangladesh

Things went from bad to worse for the Pakistan team on the fourth day of the second Test against Bangladesh. The hosts started the day on the score of 9/2 with opener Saim Ayub batting alongside skipper Shan Masood.

Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed would get his side an early breakthrough as he dismissed Ayub on 20. Another Bangladesh pacer, Nahid Rana tore apart the Pakistan top-order in the first session of the day and took the important wickets of Masood, Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel, leaving Pakistan at 81/6 at one stage.

The partnership between Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha seemed to have steadied Pakistan’s ship, however Bangladesh’s Hasan Mahmud would get the crucial wicket of Rizwan on 43. Mahmud who already had taken 2 wickets before taking the wicket of Pakistan’s wicketkeeper, would then go on to complete an incredible 5-wicket haul as the visitors bundled out the hosts for only 172 runs. Pakistan was only able to set a target of 185 runs for Bangladesh.

The visitors started their run-chase with a bang as opener Zakir Hasan started smacking the Pakistan pacers from the get-go. It looked as if the visitors would achieve the target within the fourth day itself, however the weather had other ideas.

The match was stopped due to bad light before the day’s play was abandoned due to rain with Bangladesh sitting pretty at 42/0 after 7 overs. The visitors now require 143 runs to win the match.

Pakistan currently are on the verge of suffering one of their worst series defeats in history. Even if rain abandons the fifth day’s play, still it will be Bangladesh who would go on to win the 2-match series by 1-0.
