Dr. Arshad Roghani, the head of public health in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan, has confirmed a case of monkeypox in the region.

According to a report by Express Tribune Pakistan on Monday, September 2, the individual had recently returned to Peshawar from another country.

Reports indicate that the 47-year-old resides in Peshawar, Pakistan.

Previously, Pakistani health authorities had reported the identification of the fourth case of monkeypox in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Amid rising concerns and confirmed cases of monkeypox in Pakistan, authorities have emphasized stringent measures to prevent the spread of the disease.

Furthermore, Pakistani health officials had previously stated that most monkeypox cases in the country originated from the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf region.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization has recently declared the outbreak of monkeypox a “public health emergency of international concern,” noting the spread of a new strain of the virus.

According to reports, there have been 27,000 cases and 1,100 deaths attributed to monkeypox in the Democratic Republic of Congo so far.

The situation underscores the global health challenges posed by emerging infectious diseases and highlights the need for coordinated international efforts to mitigate their impact.
