Mystery surrounds baby legs found in wastewater plant
THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) -- Law enforcement continues to search for clues that could lead to the identification of an infant whose severed legs were found at a Department of Environmental Protection Water Plant on Ryawa Avenue two years ago.
The body parts were located by workers at the facility on August 31, 2022.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that the legs are from a female with a gestational age of around 38 weeks. The rest of the body has not yet been found, according to officials.
Without the rest of her body, the cause and manner of death remain undetermined. Her DNA cannot be uploaded to federally funded databases as her death has not been ruled a homicide, officials said.
The Water Plant receives sewage from 10 zip codes within the Bronx. Anyone with information is urged to contact the 41st Precinct Detective Squad at (718) 542- 5313 or the Bronx Homicide Squad at (718) 378- 8791. Tips can also be submitted by contacting the number below.
