Indian team’s head coach Gautam Gambhir unveiled his all-time India XI and made some surprise picks which sparked debates among cricket fans on social media. In an interaction with Sportskeeda, Gambhir named himself as the opener of the side along with his former opening partner, Virender Sehwag. There was no place in the side for Rohit Sharma.

The number 3 position went to Rahul Dravid, while Tendulkar was slotted in at number 4, where he batted throughout his Test career.

Both Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni found a place in Gambhir’s line-up. While Kohli was slotted in at number 5, Dhoni was picked as the lone wicketkeeper-batter in the squad. The number 6 spot in the batting order was reserved for star all-rounder Yuvraj Singh.

Gambhir went with 2 spinners in his lineup, which included India’s highest wicket-takers in Test cricket in the form of Anil Kumble and Ravichandran Ashwin.

Zaheer Khan, who was the pillar of India’s pace attack in the 2000s, was one of the 2 pacers that Gambhir picked while, all-rounder Irfan Pathan was named as his partner. Surprisingly, Gambhir didn’t go for Jasprit Bumrah as one of the pace options in his side.

Gambhir didn’t pick any captain to the side. Also, interestingly, he only picked 3 players that were not a part of India’s 2011 World Cup winning team in Dravid, Kumble and Pathan.
