Health officials in Panjshir province report that 6,045 children are suffering from malnutrition, according to the Public Health Directorate of Panjshir.

Dr. Hojatullah Mohammadi, head of Public Health in Panjshir, stated that since the beginning of this year, 6,045 children under five years old had been identified with severe and acute malnutrition in health centers across the province.

Among them, 4,624 children are affected by moderate malnutrition, while 1,421 children are suffering from severe malnutrition.

According to information from the Public Health Directorate of Panjshir, 93 of these children are receiving treatment in the province’s 40-bed hospitals and emergency rooms. Twenty-four have already been discharged after recovery, and others are receiving care and treatment at home under the supervision of health authorities.

Officials from the Panjshir Health Directorate attribute the primary causes of the increase in malnutrition in the province to families’ lack of access to sufficient and nutritious food, as well as inadequate adherence to health guidelines.

Since the beginning of the year, the directorate has been implementing nutrition services programs for children and pregnant mothers to reduce and prevent malnutrition in the province.

The malnutrition among children in Panjshir highlights the urgent need for improved access to nutritious food and enhanced health education to prevent further escalation of this health crisis.

Immediate and sustained efforts are crucial to safeguarding the health and well-being of vulnerable populations in the region.
