A CAMPSITE in England has been named the very best for families – although still has a fully-working, on-site bar.

Bucklegrove Holiday Park is found between Cheddar and Wells in Somerset.

It was named by Go Outdoors in their list of the best UK caravanning spots, which they say are “a perfect setting for bonding with friends or family while enjoying scenic landscapes”.

The camping experts were impressed with its clean facilities, views over the Somerset Levels and Brent Knoll.

Go Outdoors said: “Bucklegrove Holiday Park is the best caravan site in England. The site is rated 4.44 stars out of five by users, and it is loved for its clean facilities and stunning views of the Somerset Levels and Brent Knoll.

“The park is pet-friendly, meaning your four-legged friend doesn’t have to miss out on the holiday.

“The on-site games room, swimming pool and entertainment facilities provide activities for everyone throughout the week, with a weekend stay costing around £79.”

Even though Bucklegrove Holiday Park isn’t close to the coast, the caravan site does have two swimming pools, a main pool and a toddler pool.

There’s also a play area, which is centrally located in Strawberry Field, has a slide and a climbing frame and it’s open from 8am until dusk.

Other facilities include an on-site shop and a restaurant that serves hearty pub meals and a selection of drinks.

There are several different accommodation options on the caravanning site, including touring pitches, grass pitches, holiday homes, lodges and pods.

The holiday park is owned by Wookey Hole Ltd who also own Wookey Hole Caves.

For those who are a bit more adventurous, Wookey Hole is not much further away, where visitors can go on an expedition through some of the country’s most famous caves.

One of the more than 2,000 five-star TripAdvisor reviews reads: “Wow! What an amazing experience! These caves are beautiful!”

The cave is also famous for its cheese, with the temperature inside the caverns perfect for maturing cheddar.

There are plenty of other attractions nearby, including Cheddar Gorge, Longleat Safari & Adventure Park as well as the city of Wells in Somerset.

Bucklegrove Holiday Park has been praised by holidaymakers on TripAdvisor, with hundreds of five-star reviews.

One person wrote: “It is a nice small site that’s not too busy and aimed at families.

“The surrounding countryside is so lush and pretty and the family who run the site are great.”

Another person added: “We had a lovely time and the view across the countryside to the Tor were stunning. It had a nice family feel to the place.”

The UK's best campsites for 2024

CAMPING experts Pitchup released their list of the best campsites in the UK, based on 200,000 customer reviews from last year.

First on the list is Strattons Farm Campsite in Norfolk, which had a score of 10/10 from 57 different reviews across 2023.

Guests were impressed with its variety of activities and the friendly hosts.

Pitchup said: “Strattons Farm Campsite is the best of the best.”Family-friendly and impeccably maintained, this Norfolk site ticks a lot of boxes: spotless facilities, plenty to do (including a fishing lake, swimming pool and play area) and helpful, welcoming hosts.”

In second place is Sychpwll Centre in Powys, Wales, which scored 10/10 from 56 reviews.

Guests loved the number of country pubs with good food and drink close-by while the wildflower meadow surrounding the pitches and the beautifully decorated communal kitchen/diner add to its charm.

A pitch for two in either a tent, campervan or motorhome is available from £26.

Next on the list was Suffolk’s Brick Kiln campsite, described as a “peaceful” adults-only site that enforces a no music rule to ensure the tranquillity isn’t broken.

Firepits are available, as is a communal barbecue, while disposables can also be purchased on site.

Pitches start from £30 per night.

Meanwhile, these are the top-rated holiday parks with on-site waterparks and pools.

And this holiday park has been named as one of the best in the country.
