NATIONAL SUMMARY

A strong cold front will spread showers and thunderstorms

from the Northeast to the southern Plains today. Any

thunderstorm can produce small hail and gusty winds across

northern New England. Meanwhile, thunderstorms can become

severe across North Carolina and Virginia, where they will

be capable of producing locally damaging wind gusts and

flooding downpours. Farther south, a tropical rainstorm off

the coast of Texas and Louisiana will lead to more

widespread showers and thunderstorms, mainly along the

western Gulf coast. There can be flooding in low-lying and

poor drainage areas. On the other side of the nation, high

pressure will promote pleasant and dry weather across the

Midwest, while the extreme heat will continue in the West,

with a spotty thunderstorm in the Southwest.
