Team White crowned 2024 Peaches Cup champions

PENTICTON, B.C. – The Penticton Vees held their annual Peaches Cup Intrasquad game on Saturday, and Team White was just peachy, wining 4-2 over Team Blue.

Ryden Evers, who was acquired in a trade with the Surrey Eagles earlier this month, scored twice for Team White. Jack Potulny and Matthew Cataldo also scored for the victors.

Anselmo Rego and Caton Ryan scored for Team Blue in a losing effort.

It was an eventful first period, as both teams combined for four goals in the opening 20 minutes.

Rego opened the scoring just 75 seconds into the game, squeezing his shot through the arm of Team White’s Andrew Ness, as Blue went up 1-0 early. Team White replied with a goal from Evers at 3:30 after he was set up by Vees’ captain Conyr Hellyer.

Team Blue went ahead again just before the five minute mark, as Ryan scored on the power play at 4:58. Ryan scored just four seconds into the man advantage, as he hammered a one-timer from the wing.

White tied it late in the first, very late. With just one second left on the clock, Evers scored his second of the period on another feed from Hellyer. Evers tying things up as the teams went to the dressing room tied 2-2.

It was a scoreless second period, with Team White heavily outshooting Blue 10-2. Sharky Nowek stopped all 10 shots he faced in the middle frame in Team Blue’s crease.

Conner Nicholson took over Team White’s crease half through the second after starter Andrew Ness stopped 12 of 14 shots.

Cataldo put White ahead five minutes into the third, as his goal made it 3-2 at 5:17. Cataldo capitalized on a dish out front by his prep school teammate Ben Merrill.

Jack Potulny doubled White’s lead with his insurance marker at 14:05.
