Weather changes expected around Portland this September
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Summer days are drifting away even if high heat remains around Oregon for the first week of September.
September is a cooling month for the greater Portland, Vancouver metro area. In addition to the mild conditions, wetter weather is also typical for the month of September. The new average rainfall for the ninth month of the year is 1.52". That's nearly an inch of rain more than the month of August. That increase in rain helps drop the temperature nearly 10-degrees over the next 30 days.
The month of September is no stranger to the 90-degree territory. That's exactly what is expected to be seen this first full week of the new month. Portland has even gone as hot as the triple digits in the month of September. The record-breaking highs in the 100s come to an end historically after the first week. The 90-degree records usually fall off the map by the final week of September.
The Climate Prediction Center is expecting to see an equal opportunity to have above, average, or below temperatures with a slightly better chance to see more moisture. That doesn't mean there could not be a rainy cool day or day with high heat, but the trend is looking more seasonal.
