A MAN pocketed a very welcome £76,000 on the People’s Postcode Lottery after a bizarre encounter the week before convinced him “something good” was going to happen.

Robert said his £76,922 cheque was karma after he helped out a tourist days earlier.

He paid the man’s car parking fee during a break in St Andrews – and he told him “something good” would happen to him.

The retired Tunnock’s bakery maintenance engineer said, “We were up in St Andrews on holiday for a week and went into a car park and had to get a ticket.

“An America guy only had a £10 note and didn’t have any change, and we said the machine only took change.”

“He said he would give us £10 if we gave him change. I said I’d just give him the money, but he still wanted to give me £10. But I didn’t take it.

“After I paid it he said, ‘Thanks very much. Something good is going to happen for you, and we’ll pass this on.'”

Robert added: “This was just last week so we didn’t have to wait too long.”

He revealed wife Ann persuaded him to sign up to the Postcode Lottery a decade ago after one of her friends won.

Robert said: “My wife really pestered me into it after one of her friends won. I feel elated.

“I’ve no idea what we’re going to do with it. Maybe go back to Australia. I have two sisters there – that’s if they want to see me.”

Robert and Ann shared £1million with 19 other neighbours in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, Scotland, after ML5 3PL landed the weekly Millionaire Street prize today.

Ann, who broke down when their cheque was revealed, said: “We’ll need to get new passports first.

“They ran out during Covid and we never bothered renewing them. The world is our oyster now.”

She added: “We’ve never won anything like that. I’m overwhelmed and never expected it in a million years.

“This is the best day ever. I’m still shaking like a leaf.”

How to play the People's Postcode Lottery?

For just £12 a month, players can sign up through the official website to have a chance of winning millions of pounds.

Once signed up, players are automatically entered into every draw and prizes are announced every day of each month.

Tickets play for the Daily Prize, worth £1000 and revealed every single day.

Tickets could also win a jackpot of £30,000 for Saturday and Sunday’s Street Prize draws.

People’s Postcode Lottery also offers a £3million Postcode Millions draw each month – where your ticket plays for a share of the cash prize fund.

Winners are notified by email, text, post, or phone call, depending on the prize they win.

Jackpot winners are visited by the lottery team in person.

The couple are now considering some home improvements and another dream holiday.

Robert said: “I would like to get a new driveway. I’d love a river cruise down the Rhine. I’ve always fancied that.”

Ann added: “The best cruise was on my 50th on the QE2 from Southampton and round the Med. I’d like to do something like that.”
