Cavite village chief shot dead during roadside cleanup

CAVITE, Philippines – Motorcyle-riding men gunned down a village chief who was in the middle of a roadside cleanup project in Maragondon, Cavite, early morning of Saturday August 31.

Maragondon police chief Major Cris Mangupay identified the victim as Rodrigo Tanagras, 53, chairman of Barangay Bridge A in the town.

Police said Tanagras was helping barangay health workers cutting grass along their village road when two men on board a motorcyle suddenly appeared and opened fire on the victim, then feld.

Tanagras, a retired provincial police officer, was rushed to San Lorenzo Ruiz Hospital in nearby Naic but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Mangupay said in an interview that authorities are still investigating the motive behind the killing of Tanagras. – Rappler.com
