US and UAE reaffirm commitment to support women in Afghanistan

US special envoy for Afghanistan’s women, Rina Amiri, met with UAE’s Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, Lana Zaki Nusseibeh.

During their meeting, they both reiterated their commitment to advocating for the rights of women and girls in Afghanistan, as stated by the UAE Foreign Ministry.

They emphasized that the rights of women and girls are crucial for Afghanistan’s economic stability.

Additionally, they agreed on the urgent necessity of collaborative efforts and resources to enhance the quality of life for Afghanistan’s women and children. This includes support for education, health services, livelihoods, and employment opportunities.

Furthermore, they discussed the critical importance of providing humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan through development initiatives and assistance for reconstruction projects.

The plight of Afghanistan’s women under Taliban rule has been dire, with severe restrictions imposed on their education and employment opportunities.

Taliban policies have led to the closure of schools for girls beyond sixth grade and have barred women from many professions. This suppression has drastically limited their access to public life and economic independence.

Moreover, the international community’s efforts to support Afghanistan’s women face challenges due to the Taliban’s stringent policies. Despite global advocacy, many women continue to face barriers to education, healthcare, and employment, hindering their prospects for a sustainable and secure future in Afghanistan.
