Major motorway will be closed for ‘several hours’ after ‘serious incident’

A major motorway has been forced to close as police investigate a ‘serious incident’.

The M3 eastbound near Winchester in Hampshire has been blocked between junctions 9 for the A34 and junction 8 for the A303.

The road will be closed for ‘several hours’ to allow police to investigate.

Hampshire Police are yet to confirm the details of the incident, but National Highways have described it as a ‘collision’. The ambulance service are also at the scene.

Some drivers are currently trapped in the closure and work is underway to turn those cars around and get them out.

Official diversion routes have been put in place.
