Deputies investigating human remains found off I-71 South
FAYETTE COUNTY, Ohio (WCMH) -- Deputies are investigating human that were found in a wood line off of Interstate 71 South near milepost 64 in Jasper Township Thursday evening.
The Fayette County Sheriff's Office said a highway construction worker called in shortly before 11 p.m. after finding the remains near the Rattlesnake Creek bridge on I-71 South. Sheriff Vernon Stanforth said after arriving, they determined the skeletal remains were human.
Fayette County Coroner Lenora Fitton responded to the scene. Fitton took possession of the remains after examining the scene. From there, the remains were transported to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office for further examination.
Both the Fayette coroner's office and sheriff's department are investigating further. The cause of death and identity of the remains are unknown at this time.
