‘Incredible’ – Pundit amazed by Tottenham and Liverpool transfer decisions
Don Hutchison cannot believe that Tottenham Hotspur paid around six times more for Dominic Solanke than Liverpool did for Federico Chiesa.
Tottenham paid big money to sign Solanke
There has been a lot said and written about the fact that Spurs paid a club-record £65m to sign Solanke from Bournemouth.
Many pundits have suggested that Tottenham have overpaid for the Englishman and taken a massive gamble despite his goalscoring exploits with the Cherries last season (talkSPORT).
On Thursday, Liverpool confirmed that they had struck a deal to sign Chiesa from Juventus, with the Reds reportedly paying £10m for the winger.
According to TBR Football, Chiesa turned down approaches from several Premier League clubs, including Tottenham, in favour of a switch to Anfield.
Spurs were linked with Federico Chiesa too
When TV presenter Adriano Del Monte took to social media to contrast the prices that Spurs and Liverpool have spent on the Englishman and the Italian respectively, Hutchison admitted that he is in disbelief at the difference.
Spurs Web Opinion
There is no doubt that signing a player of Chiesa’s quality for £10m is a huge coup for Liverpool but the differences in the prices of the two players are dictated by market forces.
Chiesa is surplus to requirements at Juve, has just one year left on his contract and is quite injury-prone. In contrast, Solanke had a long-term contract at Bournemouth, who did not want to let him go, and top-class number nines are hard to come by at the moment.
