The Best Romantic Comedy Of 2024 (So Far) Just Dropped On Peacock
If you’ve been waiting to stream The Fall Guy from home, now’s your chance.
It’s been a slow year so far when it comes to romantic comedies, but though they aren’t coming out in great numbers, it’s the quality that’s noteworthy. Although we still have a few months left of 2024, there’s a hands-down winner when it comes to the best rom com of the year. What do you get when you mix equal parts action and intrigue with Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt and cute romance? That’s right, we’re talking about The Fall Guy and now it’s finally streaming on Peacock.
Did you know The Fall Guy is actually a remake/reimagining?
Even if you haven’t seen this action rom com yet, you likely heard all about it when it came out earlier this year. Ryan Gosling battling through Australian while he also tries to earn the love and respect of Emily Blunt? Yes, please. Yet something that was curiously missing from the conversation was The Fall Guy’s status as a remake. Loosely based on the 1980s TV series of the same name, The Fall Guy is about a stunt performer who leaves the business after a tragic accident. When called back to help out on the film his ex is directing, he can’t help but say yes. Why? There’s a missing person plot he can help solve in the meantime.
The original TV show starred Lee Majors as Colt Seavers and Heather Thomas as Jody Banks (played by Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt in the remake). In the show, Jody was a fellow stunt performer, though she’s a film director in the remake. And honestly, that promotion is a win in my book. Break that glass ceiling, Jody!
It’s a love letter to stunt performers.
Though they do some of the hardest–and definitely some of the most dangerous–tasks on a movie set, the work of stunt performers often goes unnoticed. There isn’t even an Oscar for stunt performing, which is a crime. This movie hopes to solve it, though. The focus is so much on the stunts that they even show the real stunt performers in behind-the-scenes looks during the end credits, so definitely stick around for that. And those actions sequences? They’re stellar. If you want to learn more about the best stunts, check out our article, The Best Stunts From Ryan Gosling And Emily Blunt Rom Com Stunner, ‘The Fall Guy’.
So, how’s the love?
The Fall Guy is an action rom com, in that order. Rather than the romance-heavy rom coms you normally see, this one has heart besides just who’s kissing who. The action is great and the actual twisty mystery of the plot makes for good viewing. It’s the kind of movie that could appeal to literally anyone, so if you’re looking to watch this with someone who doesn’t normally like romantic comedies (blasphemy), they may just change their mind.
