Katy Perry Looks Happy & Exhausted in Newly Released Hospital Video of the Day After She Became a Mom
Sometimes, the stars align, and the universe gives us a cosmic gift of finding success in both our motherhood journeys and our careers at the same time. That top-of-the-world feeling is indescribable — and when it happened to Katy Perry, someone caught the moment on video. The “Woman’s World” singer shared a throwback clip of two special milestones that hit around the same time, and she looks so happy and exhausted.
Perry posted a video on her Instagram story of the day after she gave birth to her daughter Daisy Dove Bloom, 4 — which so happened to be the day her fifth studio album, Smile, dropped. The video, per PEOPLE, was time-stamped Aug. 28, 2020. Her blonde hair is pulled back as she lies in a hospital bed, wearing a pumping bra with the white blankets pulled up over her.
“What day is it?” someone off camera asks Perry, who looks tired after giving birth to her first baby. She takes a bite of food and responds, “It’s the day after I gave birth to Daisy Dove Bloom and it’s the day my 5th record comes out.” Aww! What special timing, that’s awesome.
Previously, she wrote on her story, per PEOPLE, “Happy 4th birthday to my album smile.” Perry added, “Where were you when this album came out, I’ll show you where I was.”
The American Idol judge shares Daisy Dove with fiancé Orlando Bloom. They are very private about their home life, but Perry has given some insight into her daughter’s birth over the years. In a Feb. 2021 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Perry opened up about her “wild” postpartum experience. “What they don’t tell you is nobody talks about the first six weeks after you have the baby,” Perry said, per Buzzfeed. “Oh my god, that’s wild! What a roller coaster!”
During the interview with host Jimmy Kimmel, the “Teenage Dream” star opened up about releasing an album at the same time as giving birth. “I had my fifth album coming out… You know, every other album cycle, there’d be some kind of celebration or party or dinner, whatever, you know,” Perry said. “This time, I was giving birth to the greatest gift of all for me, and then my album came out the next day, and I was in the hospital, and I could not wipe my own butt. I was like, ‘This is the most unusual album release day for me, and I love it!’”
What a cool example of what it’s like to be a working mom!
