OIC urges Afghanistan to review decisions on girls and women

Tariq Ali Bakhit, representing the Islamic Organization for Cooperation in Afghanistan, met Amir Khan Muttaqi, acting foreign minister of the Taliban, on Thursday.

According to an OIC statement, the meeting took place during the OIC’s Council of Foreign Ministers’ 50th session in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

They discussed reviewing the Taliban’s current decisions on girls’ education and women’s employment during the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers’ 50th session in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

The meeting aimed to address Afghanistan’s security, humanitarian, and economic challenges, including efforts to combat terrorism and drug trafficking.

As Afghanistan grapples with these issues, the plight of women and girls remains severe. Restrictions on education and employment opportunities continue to exacerbate the humanitarian crisis. Many women and girls face barriers to accessing education, while others cannot pursue careers or participate fully in society.

The Taliban’s policies have significantly limited women’s rights, constraining their ability to contribute to the country’s development and stability.

This situation underscores the urgent need for international support and advocacy to improve conditions for Afghanistan’s women and girls, ensuring their rights are protected and opportunities are expanded amid ongoing challenges.
