We bought a Victorian house & made a huge discovery under the floor… it’ll be a showpiece but it’s terrifying people too

THEY had no idea what they’d find when they ripped out the floor in their Victorian house.

But Emma and her partner were left stunned after making a huge discovery.

The pair bought the house – which was built in 1897 – last year, and have embarked on a mammoth renovation project.

When they decided to redo the floor in the kitchen, they lifted up the floorboards to find what looked to be some kind of trapdoor.

After lifting it up, they found a huge well underneath – full of water.

“Everybody has that one thing in their house that everybody thinks is so cool,” Emma said in a video on TikTok.

“Could be a hidden cabinet. Little movie room. Gadget.

“But ours is this!”

They decided to make a showpiece out of the well, and knocked out the surrounding concrete to show just how big it was.

“We pulled out the lintels and drilled all around the edges to open it up and you can see it’s so much bigger than it originally looked,” Emma explained in the video.

They then enlisted the help of a local tradesman to make a “steel collar” to fit around the top of the well.

After that, they’re planning to put a piece of glass in, so that people are able to look down into the well when they come over.

And the addition of the collar means that the edges look loads tidier, and it will also give them a “safe place to lay the glass down”.

While some people were massively jealous of the pair’s find, others insisted they’d be too scared to even look in it – saying that The Ring villain might come out of it.

“Absolutely not, Samara be coming out in 7 days time,” one wrote.

“We’ve been here for a year so hopefully the coast is clear,” Emma replied.

“I also thought of Samara! Could never keep this in my house, I’d be on edge every second!” a third said.

“It’s all fun and games until that girl comes crawling up the thing,” someone else commented.

Home upgrades that add the most value to a house

The best renovation to add value totally depends on your property, the local market and your potential buyers.

Zoopla shared a list of upgrades that will instantly add value to your home.

  1. Loft conversion – increase of 15%
  2. Off-street parking – adds £50,000 to property price
  3. New kitchen – increase of 15%
  4. Garage conversion – increase of 15%
  5. Cellar or basement conversion – increase of 10-15%
  6. Open plan living space – increase of 3-5%
  7. New bathroom – increase of 3-5%

“Something old and long forgotten is crawling out of that every eclipse for sure,” another sighed.

“It’s like a trailer for a horror movie!” someone else said.

“The ring movie – that’s all I am saying lol,” another joked.

As someone else wrote: “Hey cool… I saw this movie. Good luck!”

But others praised the pair for turning the well into a feature, and admitted they were “invested” to see how it turned out.

“Free water!” one wrote.

“I would definitely use it – £0 water bill would be nice!”

“Is it drinkable? Have you had it tested?” another asked.

“We’ve bought some water tests! Video coming soon!” Emma replied.

“That is just stunning, how creative!” someone else said.

“I was so happy when you said you were going to put glass over the top and make it a feature,” another praised.

“That’s such a unique feature! Will you put lights in there at all?”

To which Emma replied: “Yes! We’re currently battling between those led lights in the video and more traditional spotlights.

“I thought the led ones were a bit bright – it looks like a portal to another world!”
