How Trump and Georgia's Republican governor made peace, helped by allies anxious about the election
South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham helped broker peace between two longtime foes of the same party: former President Donald Trump and Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp. The Trump-Kemp relationship has been poisoned for years, driven largely by Kemp's refusal to stop the certification of Trump's 2020 loss in the state to Democrat Joe Biden. But a recent meeting between Graham and Kemp at a private fundraiser in Atlanta's Buckhead neighborhood helped set in motion a détente. A true alignment, if it lasts, could benefit both men. Trump needs the help of Kemp's political operation, and Kemp needs the backing of Trump supporters for a future run at the U.S. Senate or the White House.
