Brisbane woman arrested on suspicion of attacking daughter with a machete, police say
BRISBANE — Police arrested a woman at a hotel on Wednesday after receiving a call that she was attacking her daughter with a machete, according to a news release.
Brisbane police received a call on Wednesday about a 13-year-old girl being assaulted by her mother with a machete at Hilton Homewood Suites at 2000 Shoreline Ct. Officers arrived to the hotel room but did not receive any answer when they knocked. After several attempts to get someone to answer, officers from Brisbane police and other neighboring agencies entered the room by force.
Six children were found in the room, including the 13-year-old girl. The suspect refused to leave a second room, where three additional children were inside, police said. Authorities requested negotiators and additional resources to have the suspect leave the room and check on the other three children.
The woman left the hotel room and was arrested some time later. The three children in the room with her were found to be safe and asleep. After the suspect was arrested, the girl was examined by medics and found with a small gash that did not require medical attention. Another family member was called to take care of all nine children, police said.
The woman, 42, was booked into Maguire Correctional Facility without bail on suspicion of inflicting injury on a child, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and false imprisonment. She was also suspected of petty theft and bail was set at $5,000. She was scheduled to appear in court at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
