Patriots’ Jerod Mayo Hosts Celtics Champion At Practice
Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo welcomed a special guest to practice Thursday.
Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla, who has built quite the friendship with other regional coaches in recent years, made the trek down to Gillette Stadium on Thursday, according to those in attendance.
Mazzulla has been a guest in Foxboro, Mass. before, having visited multiple times during Bill Belichick's last couple seasons at the helm in New England. Mayo's elevation to that role has only gone to strengthen his own relationship with Mazzulla, which began when both were assistant coaches.
"I love Jerod," Mazzulla said in January. "The times I went over to (Gillette Stadium) to go visit, I got to spend time in the linebacker room, in the defensive room with him and Steve (Belichick). Just his ability to think the game, I like the relationship that he built with his linebackers and those (defensive backs).
"He's been around a long time. He's coached there, he's played, I don't need to give him any (advice). But he does have my support, and can't wait to go over and sit with him and learn from him."
Mayo was a strong supporter during the Celtics' run to Banner 18, which is expected to continue being celebrated by local teams when the Patriots host the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 15.
