Cyprus to ratify ILO convention on violence at work

Cyprus decided on Thursday to ratify and implement the International Labour Organisation’s convention on eliminating violence and harassment at work, through three bills that will now be sent to parliament.

The new framework provides for specific authorities and procedures for the state and employers, as well as penalties for offenders.

Special emphasis will be given to the responsibility of organisations and businesses to prevent harassment in the workplace.

Labour Minister Yiannis Panayiotou said Thursday’s decision by the cabinet was “indicative of the political will of the government to upgrade working terms and conditions.”
