Mount, 25, started both games for the Red Devils this season as he looked to finally make his mark.

He arrived at Old Trafford last summer in a £60million transfer from Chelsea.

However, his debut campaign did not go well as he only featured 14 times in the Premier League as he dealt with multiple injury issues.

Mount is now set to miss a number of weeks for Erik ten Hag due to his hamstring injury he picked up against Brighton.

He said in a statement: “During the last game I picked up a minor muscle issue.

“I’ve had it checked and it looks like I’ll be out for a few games. Leading up to and during pre-season, I worked hard to get my fitness back to where it needs to be and I felt re-energised, sharp and ready.

“I wanted you to hear it directly from me how frustrated I am, as I expect you are too.

“I will do everything possible to be back in the best shape and help the team.”

This means that he will miss Sunday’s visit of Arne Slot’s Liverpool.

Mount could also be out of Manchester United’s Carabao Cup tie against Barnsley and their match with Tottenham on September 29.

The club confirmed that Mount will miss the “next few games”.

A statement read: “Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount has suffered a minor injury setback that is due to keep him out of action for a few games.

“The no.7 was substituted at half-time of last weekend’s Premier League match against Brighton and Hove Albion, where he had started for the third consecutive match this season.”

Fans can not believe Mount’s luck as they reacted to the news on social media.

One posted: “Oh my goodness bro.”

A second wrote: “New season but same ould Mount.”

A third commented: “So unluckily to be injured again.”

A fourth said: “This is going to be his United career isn’t it? Pity. He started this season better. Thought he made us look better as well.”

Another added: “This can’t be real.”

Ten Hag will now have to find a replacement in the team to cover Mount’s injury.

Scott McTominay will not be an option as the Scot is set to complete a move to Napoli.

While Manuel Ugarte has not yet completed his move from Paris Saint-Germain and may need some time to adapt to England.
