Spurs like the look of PL midfielder but want to change his position – Journalist
Journalist Dean Jones believes that Tottenham Hotspur continue to have their eye on Morgan Gibbs-White, although Ange Postecoglou may want to tweak the Nottingham Forest midfielder’s position.
Tottenham like Morgan Gibbs-White
All through the summer, Spurs have been linked with several energetic box-to-box midfielders, with Gibbs-White being one of those.
In fact, Football Insider reported last month that both the Lilywhites and Fulham had reached out to Forest over the player’s availability.
The report suggested that both London clubs had been informed that it would take an offer of over £40m to get the 24-year-old out of the City Ground.
However, since then, there have been mixed reports over Tottenham’s pursuit of a midfielder, with some outlets suggesting over recent weeks that the club have been so impressed with Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray that they have shelved plans to sign a number eight (The Athletic).
Spurs are still looking at Morgan Gibbs-White
Jones believes that Gibbs-White continues to be on Spurs’ radar but he suggested that Postecoglou wants to use the player in a more attacking role than he plays at Forest.
The journalist said on Ranks FC Podcast: “One thing I have been told a few times is that they want someone with power from the midfield.
“Morgan Gibbs-White is someone they like but they like him as more of a number eight breaking out, not as a traditional number eight. They like that and they like Joao Gomes at Wolves.”
Spurs Web Opinion
The one thing we know about Ange is that he would not want signings for the sake of it.
If the Tottenham boss genuinely believes that Bergvall and Gray are good enough to play a prominent role this season, he would not want to block their development by bringing another midfielder through the door.
