A WOMAN has shared her reasoning for removing her young children from school, and deciding to home educate them instead.

Megan Beasley, 27 said that she is “bricking it” after de-registering her children from school, but believes that this is the best decision for the four and nine year old.

Taking to TikTok, the stay at home mum revealed that she “can’t see any other way forward”, as she is unhappy with the current schooling system in the UK.

Megan has previously posted about her grievances with the fines given to parents who take their children out of school to go on holiday during term time.

Families whose children miss five days of school will have to pay a £160 fine.

Parents can only pick up two fines within a three-year period.

Once this limit has been reached, extra actions like a parenting order, or prosecution, will be put in place.

However, she said that although it will be nice to travel without being fined, this is not her only reason for pulling the children out of school.

In a second video, Megan said that she and her partner don’t agree with some of the topics which are being taught in schools.

She added that there is also a lot of bullying at school, which can cause problems such as anxiety.

“By home educating our children, we can be in control of what they learn, and how much information they take in”, she said.

Parents are allowed to teach their children at home, and do not have to follow the national curriculum.

However, if the council believe that your children are not receiving a full education at home, you may be served a school attendance order.

Megan added that the kids will get one to one support, which they would not have access to at school.

She said that her children will not be isolated, as she has already found some home education groups for them to join.

Home schooling rules

Anyone can choose to educate their child at home, and you must inform the school if you wish to take them out of education.

Home-schooling parents must ensure that they are giving their children a full education from the age of five, but do not have to follow the national curriculum.

The council can make an ‘informal enquiry’ to make sure your children are being taught properly at home and can serve a school attendance order if they think your child needs to be educated at school.

Megan’s video, which was posted under the username @megan_beasley1, has likely left many people open-mouthed, as it has racked up over 119,000 views on the video sharing platform.

TikTok users raced to the video’s comments section to share their thoughts, and opinions were divided.

One person said: “I don’t get the hype over taking your children out off school.

“How exactly are u going to teach them things?”

A second person said: “State schools teach them algebra, pie charts and history, none of this has helped me in my adult life.

“I would do the exact same.”

A third person said: “Teachers go to college for years to learn how to do their job.

“How do parents think they can do the same?”

A fourth person added: “We took our daughter out of secondary school in year 8 and it was the best thing we have ever done for her.

“I was extremely nervous at first but she’s 16 now and has done her exams.”
