A GARDENING expert has shared a 60p hack for getting rid of moss on your patio for good.
Moss can be incredibly difficult to get rid of once it has spread, as its spores are very resilient and embed themselves into surfaces, meaning that it will eventually regrow.
However, there is one simple way to prevent it from growing back.
An expert from Tendercare Plant Nursery revealed that washing up liquid will banish moss, without you having to use harsh chemicals.
They said: “One of the simplest methods of cleaning paving is to use hot soapy water.
“This works well for light staining on softer stones.”
Washing up liquid contains surfactants which break down moss, and kill it.
It is also super cheap and can be purchased from the supermarket for as little as 60p.
Moss needs to be constantly moist for it to survive, and the washing up liquid dehydrates the moss, making it difficult for it to survive.
Before trying out this method, clear away any plants or garden furniture which are on the patio, and sweep any dirt away.
Then, mix together one part washing up liquid and one part water in a bucket.
Pour the mixture onto your patio, and then scrub it using a garden brush.
Then, rinse the patio with hot clean water, and leave it to dry for 24 hours.
Make sure to use this method on a sunny day, so that the moss has chance to dry out.
Another thing that you can use to clean patio off your moss, is white vinegar.
Delah Gomasi, managing director at cleaning company MaidForYou told The Express: “It’s really as simple as spraying a mixture of 65 percent water and 35 percent vinegar on the areas you want to have the moss removed.”
How to repair broken patio slabs
THE paving specialists at Simply Paving told Fabulous how you can repair broken patio slabs, without the faff.
The experts advised: “If you have a loose paving slab, then it’s unlikely it can be lifted straight by hand. Instead, you will probably need a hammer and chisel to prise the paver free of your patio.
“To remove loose paving slabs without damaging your flagstones, carefully chip away at the mortar around the paving slab with the plugging chisel and rubber mallet until the slab comes completely loose.
“Then, slide the spade into the gap left by the mortar and prise the paver free of the patio.
“As you lift it up, place a short piece of timber underneath the spade to act as a lever, making it easier for you while protecting the slab underneath.
“When the paver starts to give, place the cylindrical wood underneath it and roll the slab out of the patio.”
After you have applied the moss, wait a few days for it to go brown and then remove it using a hard bristled brush.
When the moss has been removed, spray down your patio with a garden house to make sure any excess moss has been removed.
Then, let it dry off before putting anything back on it.
White vinegar is super cheap, and can be picked up from most supermarkets for as little as 69p.
