Man in custody after fire at Jeanerette City Hall, authorities say
UPDATE, 8/28/2024, 8:30 p.m.: The suspect has been taken into custody, the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office announced.
ORIGINAL: IBERIA PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- A 44-year-old man is wanted in connection with a "delayed incendiary device" that was ignited at Jeanerette City Hall on Wednesday, according to the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office.
The State Fire Marshal's Office said they are searching for Desmond Eugene in connection with the incident, which authorities say occurred just before 1 p.m. Wednesday.
According to a news release, Eugene arrived on a bike and attempted to get into the Mayor's Office portion of the building. After an unsuccessful attempt, authorities said Eugene then started a fire using a delayed incendiary device before leaving the scene on the bicycle.
Several people were inside City Hall at the time of the fire but no injuries were reported. Authorities said there was minimal damage reported.
