Once thriving holiday park now overgrown and left to rot

Pontins was once the pinnacle of summer holidays for generations around Britain.

With on-site apartments, comedians, live music, playgrounds and even swimming pools, you couldn’t ask for much more from a budget getaway.

Now only one of Pontins holiday parks is still open to the public, and it regularly ranks worst value of all the holiday parks in the UK, with one guest describing its offering as dull and dingy.

The overgrown park at Prestatyn, North Wales, is a far cry from its former glory.

Despite a local campaign to have it reopened or sold on, the site has remained closed since it was suddenly shut by Britannia Hotels last November.

The weeds and wildflowers are having a great old time where parents once strolled and children played.

But it otherwise looks desolate.

It’s hard to imagine it as a place where laughter once rang out.

Amy, from Bangor, recently visited the site of her ‘fondest memories’ while staying at the nearby Robin Hood camp.

She told North Wales Live: ‘It was just somewhere that holds so many happy memories for myself and so many other families and to just see it getting left to rot and over grow is horrendous.

‘I just hope another holiday camp takes over and Britannia do the right thing.

‘My family have been coming since my mam was young and then myself as a child and most recently my own children.

‘The site has so much potential to be re done up and be used again for more families to be lucky enough to make memories like we did.’
