Freddie, who is competing alongside dad Jeff Brazier, reflected on his late mother.

He told the cameras: “I don’t really like showing my emotions.

“I don’t even speak to my dad much about my mum either. I just avoid it.

“I prefer to bottle it up. I don’t want to feel like I’m a burden to them.

“A lot of my memories that I have of my mum have come from watching a documentary, YouTube clips, newspapers, they are not my memories.”

In heartbreaking scenes, Freddie revealed he doesn’t have any memory of being “held” by his mother, who died aged 27 of cervical cancer.

He shared: “If I had more memories of her, it would have made it a whole lot harder for me.

“But I think I would rather that than not really remember the things that I had done with my mum.

“It’s just life really and I’ve kind of accepted that.”

Taking to X, viewers watching at home soon shared an outpouring of emotion towards Freddie’s words.

One wrote: “Freddie talking about his mum on #RaceAcrosstheWorld I’m in tears.”

Another added: “One thing I think everyone can agree on, is that in no way, will Freddie be a burden to his Dad.”

A third penned: “Can’t believe the race is happening on Mother’s Day, poor Freddie.”

Also competing are radio DJ Scott Mills and his husband Sam, model Kelly Brook and her husband Jeremy Parisi.

Completing the line-up are Ted Lasso actor Kola Bokinni and his cousin, Mary Ellen Moriarty.

Race Across The World - Winners so far

Since launching in 2019, BBC travel competition series Race Across The World has had four series to date. Let's take a look at back at the winners so far...

  • Series one: Elaine and Tony Teasdale: This married couple, who are retired PE teachers, won the very first series of Race Across The World.
  • Series two: Emon and Jamiul Choudhury: The uncle and nephew duo emerged victorious in the show’s second outing.
  • Series three: Tricia Sail and Cathie Rowe: These lifelong friends became the first non-familial pair to win a series.
  • Series four: Alfie Watts and Owen Wood: Both aged 20, these friends bested four other pairs to win series four.

Kola, who lost his own mum at 15 years old, offered words of comfort to Freddie, saying: “Usually on Mother’s Day we all, my brothers and sisters, we celebrate and reminisce.”

In the episode, Jeff and Freddie made their way to San Salvador while on the hunt for a sunset spot to honour Jade.

Upon reaching the Bay of Saints, Freddie said: “Maybe Mum’s pushing us in the direction of where we need to go. Thank you, Mother Nature.”

Celebrity Race Across the World airs on BBC One and is available on iPlayer.
