Firefighters battle Akrotiri blaze

A fire was raging in Akrotiri on Wednesday, with three firefighting aircraft on site battling the flames.

Fire trucks from the British bases and forestry department were also deployed to the scene, as authorities were trying to determine the cause of the fire.

On Tuesday, a fire had erupted in the same area and it was not immediately clear if it was the same fire that reignited or a new one.

One helicopter from the British bases and two aircraft from the forestry department were at the scene.

The flames were burning wild shrub and vegetation, a spokesperson for the bases said. There was no danger to people’s homes, they specified.
