Witness throws brick at woman allegedly fleeing Long Island crash: SCPD
NORTH BABYLON, N.Y. (PIX11) – A witness who saw a woman allegedly fleeing the scene of a crash on Long Island Tuesday threw a brick at her car to get her to stop, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
The crash happened on Skidmore Road in North Babylon around 6 p.m. A man, identified as 54-year-old Edward Marone, was sitting in a parked car when he saw a Mercedes Benz ram into a utility pole, causing it to snap and fall, per police.
Marone got out of the parked car to check on the driver of the Mercedes, identified as 18-year-old Marianne Mkrtchian, according to authorities. That's when Mkrtchian allegedly put her car in reverse, backed up and pinned Marone against his car.
She's then accused of putting her car in drive to flee the scene. A man who saw what happened picked up a brick and threw it at Mkrtchian's car, smashing the windshield, per police.
Mkrtchian stopped her car and got out, according to authorities. She was arrested at the scene when police officers arrived.
Marone was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital with serious injuries.
Mkrtchian, of North Bellmore, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving serious physical injury.
