IF you’ve been experiencing turbulence in your relationship, the issue might not lie with you or your partner.

According to feng shui expert Priya Sher, the root cause could be as simple as the layout of your bedroom.

In a chat with Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo on their NewlyWeds podcast, Priya emphasised that the master bedroom is the most crucial space to consider when it comes to fostering harmony and positive energy in your relationship.

And apparently, if that’s not laid out the right way, it can cause serious problems within a relationship.

Talking to the couple, who got married in April this year, Priya said: “It’s all about the way the energy is and where the sunlight comes in.”

Jamie, 35, and Sophie, 30, revealed on their podcast that they were renovating their home and wanted to ensure that it was done properly by getting advice from a feng shui expert.

Feng shui is an ancient Chinese art of arranging buildings, objects, and space in an environment to achieve harmony and balance.

The master bedroom is one of the most important rooms in the home, as it is where “we spend eight hours” a day.

Priya continued: “What I would recommend for your bedroom is the position of the bed.

“You want to make sure you’ve got a solid wall behind you, you do not want your head in the window, you do not want your head in the toilet, and you do not want your head right opposite the door of the bedroom.”

Piya also had strong opinions on the size of the bed.

She said: “The other thing that you’ve got to make sure of is that you get a double bed.

“Do not get one of those super king size beds because that is introducing other people into your relationship and you don’t want that.

“You can get a queen sized bed. I’m talking about those beds where it’s like three beds glued together, like super kings.”

Couples shouldn’t have beds where they are joined together either.

“So the beds are the bases,” says the feng shui expert.

“You don’t want the beds to be joined together with a split in the middle because that’s causing friction in your relationship, it’s causing a divide in your relationship so you just want one base.”

Couples should focus on calm colours like “pastels and neutrals” in the bedroom.

She said: “Say you had bright red walls that are a yang colour, it can cause a lot of arguments, sleepless nights, it induces stress in the bedroom.

“You need to stay away from bright shades in the bedroom.

“You don’t want black walls in the bedroom either as that can be over eight hours every night, that can start dulling your energy.”

Choosing the right duvet cover is also important, especially for newlyweds.

Priya said: “Make sure you have silk pillow cases.

“You need to get a really light duvet.”

What is feng shui & what’s the thinking behind it?

FENG shui, an age-old Chinese tradition, aims to align people with their environments in a harmonious way.
The phrase “feng shui” means “wind” and “water,” elements deeply linked to well-being and prosperity in Chinese culture.
This practice covers various aspects such as architecture, interior design, and the strategic arrangement of spaces to enhance the flow of energy, known as “chi,” within a given area.
It is about creating a living space that supports the flow of energy in your life and your relationships.

The Thinking Behind Feng Shui:

Energy Flow: The idea is to create an environment where chi can flow freely and smoothly, avoiding stagnation or chaotic energy patterns. Proper energy flow is believed to enhance health, happiness, and success.

Balance and Harmony: Feng shui seeks to create a balanced and harmonious environment, which in turn fosters a balanced and harmonious life. By aligning your living space with natural forces, you can achieve greater peace and well-being.

Environmental Influence: The practice is based on the belief that your surroundings significantly impact your mental, emotional, and physical state. By optimising your environment, you can positively influence various aspects of your life.

Intentional Living: Feng shui encourages mindful and intentional living. Each element in your space should serve a purpose and contribute to the overall harmony and functionality of the environment.
