Construction of general aviation hangar under way at Katowice Airport

0

Construction of a hangar for General Aviation aircraft is under way at Katowice Airport. A cutting-edge building is being raised near apron no. 4, located in the south-western part of the airport and designated for general aviation aircraft. The 5 453 m2 building will be 133 metres wide, 41 metres deep and 11 metres high. It will consist of three independent segments; each one will allow to store A-C code aircraft and helicopters. The hangar will be put into service in the first quarter of 2025. PROMUS sp. z o.o. is the main contractor responsible for the project.

The Upper Silesian Aviation Group (GTL S.A.) – the company managing the Airport – focuses on providing diverse infrastructure. As a result of such a strategy, a multi-functional airport is available in Pyrzowice, one which handles not only passenger and cargo traffic, but also allows to carry out aircraft maintenance operations. The General Aviation area in the south-western part of the airport is the next stage of building infrastructure for entities representing various segments of the aviation industry at the Airport.

Currently, the manager of Katowice Airport offers complex services related to handling business clients and business jets. There are two fast tracks in passenger terminals – allowing to quickly pass security control – and two business lounges. The airport’s Business Customer Department offers assistance during the check-in procedure, as well as private transport between terminals and aircraft. Furthermore, GTL S.A. has a certificate and approval allowing to perform ground handling of General Aviation aircraft.

“At Katowice Airport, we are committed to diversifying our operations based on the optimal use of infrastructure. This is why we have been investing in further growth of General Aviation services for years now. It is our ambition to make Katowice Airport one of the best airports in this part of Europe in this segment. I’m glad that clients of GTL S.A. appreciate our efforts, emphasised by the fact that they have decided to build a hangar for business jets at Katowice Airport,” said Artur Tomasik, President of the board of the Upper Silesian Aviation Group (GTL S.A.), the company managing Katowice Airport.

Katowice Airport is one of the biggest regional airports in Poland. In 2023, 5.6M passengers travelled via its network of flights. The forecast for 2024 estimates that 6.2M passengers will be handled, the most in the history of Katowice Airport. Katowice Wojciech Korfanty International Airport is the country leader in the area of charter flights, and one of the biggest cargo airports in Poland.
