My 20p fruit erases all wrinkles – it’s basically nature’s ‘Botox’ and will even brighten your skin in just two minutes
FORGET Botox – according to one thrifty woman the answer to a wrinkle-free complexion is already sitting in your kitchen.
When it comes to banishing wrinkles and fine lines the first word to spring to mind tends to be Botox and other pricey injections.
The thrifty beauty buff revealed how she uses a popular fruit to keep the wrinkles at bay[/caption] According to her, rubbing a banana peel on the skin is like ‘preventative Botox’[/caption]But although some people swear by it, not only can the costs rack up over time it can also go terribly wrong, leaving you with ”square root eyebrows” and a crooked smile.
Luckily, if you’re on the lookout for a safer method – that’s also purse-friendly – one woman has come to rescue.
The best part? Not only is it totally natural and costs pennies but there’s also not a single needle in sight – a win-win.
According to Kirti Tewani, who’s all about achieving radiant skin and healthy hair with Ayurveda, the secret to a youthful and wrinkle-free glow is… a banana.
Taking to TikTok, the thrifty beauty lover revealed how she uses the humble fruit (botanically, a berry) as a ”wrinkle reducer”.
This is because, she explained in the video, ”the inside of the banana contains lutein ”.
Also found in other foods, such as dark leafy greens, yellow-pigmented foods, and egg yolks, lutein is a fat-soluble nutrient that has heaps of benefits to our health – and skin.
As reported by a study in the British Journal of Dermatology, lutein significantly reduced UV damage to the skin and it can also help with improving the overall skin tone, elasticity, and provide a hydration boost.
Raving about the 20p hack which involves rubbing the inside of the peel on your skin, Kirti said: ”It can also help to reduce inflammation.
”It’s more like preventative Botox,” she added.
For best results, the beauty lover said to rub the peel on clean, dry skin for around one to two minutes, ”focusing on wrinkles, fine lines and pigmentation”.
Once done, let it work its magic for 20 minutes before rinsing it off with water and complete the process with your skincare routine.
However, whilst it may be significantly cheaper than Botox, experts in the industry are not convinced.
”There’s no topical or food supplement that is going to give you the same effect Botox can when you inject it,” said Dr Geeta Yadav, a dermatologist based, Daily Mail reported.
How is celery juice an anti-ageing potion?
Celery juice is packed with antioxidants like vitamin C and flavonoids, which combat free radicals that cause cellular damage and aging.
Its high water content keeps your skin hydrated and plump, reducing the appearance of wrinkles.
The anti-inflammatory compounds in celery, such as apigenin and luteolin, help reduce chronic inflammation linked to ageing.
Rich in essential nutrients like vitamin K and potassium, celery juice supports overall skin health and body functions.
Drinking celery juice regularly can complement a balanced diet and skincare routine, promoting a youthful glow from within.
”There’s no scientific evidence to suggest that rubbing a banana peel on your face is going to help’ with wrinkles, dark circles or inflammation,” agreed Dr Taylor Bullock, a dermatology resident at the Cleveland Clinic.
Dr Yadav added that while banana peels do have antimicrobial properties, the benefits are so small that it’s unlikely beauty buffs will notice them.
Hundreds of fellow social media users flocked to comments to share their thoughts, with one joking: ”I did this but I couldn’t stop the amount of flies on my face.”
Another shared how they used the peel: ”I rub that part in my teeth they become white.”
”Yes, this is very good,” someone else chimed in.
