Manuel Ugarte arrives at Carrington in middle of night ahead of £51million transfer from PSG
MANUEL UGARTE arrived at Carrington late last night ahead of a £51million move from Paris Saint-Germain.
The Uruguayan midfielder is on the verge of becoming Erik ten Hag’s fifth major summer signing following weeks of talks.
Manuel Ugarte has arrived at Man Utd ahead of his £51million move from PSG[/caption]Ugarte is believed to have agreed personal terms with United in July after falling down the pecking order at PSG.
But a transfer is now finally close after the French champs accepted an offer worth £51m from the Red Devils this week.
United will also pay an additional £8.5m in add-ons should certain targets be met.
And Ugarte could be thrust into the starting XI for Sunday’s crunch clash with rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford.
The 23-year-old was left out of PSG’s opening two match-day squads as United cranked up the heat in negotiations.
The French side were determined to get at least a fixed fee worth the same amount they paid to sign Ugarte from Sporting Lisbon last summer.
While United had hoped to land him on an initial loan deal with an option to buy.
But after having several offers rejected, United finally found a breakthrough in talks this week after agreeing to go straight into a permanent transfer.

Ugarte finally made his arrival into Carrington late last night following a flight from France.
The former Chelsea target is now set to undergo a medical before penning a long-term deal.
And he teased his arrival by tweeting a pair of eye emojis, with recently departed ex-Man Utd star and international team-mate Facundo Pellistri responding with a clapping and heart emoji.
Ugarte will now follow Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui through the door at Old Trafford.
The cost of his transfer is set to be offset by the £25m departure of Scott McTominay to Napoli.
While United could yet add Raheem Sterling to their forward line.
Sporting chief Dan Ashworth held stunning talks with Chelsea over a deal for their misfit winger yesterday.
And a move could see Jadon Sancho head in the opposite direction despite his return to Ten Hag’s senior squad.
