'Resurrected a dead Witch Hunt': Irate Trump rages at Jack Smith over re-indictment

Former President Donald Trump unleashed a tirade in a series of posts on his Truth Social account Tuesday against special counsel Jack Smith for bringing a superseding indictment against him.

"In an effort to resurrect a 'dead' Witch Hunt in Washington, D.C., in an act of desperation, and in order to save face, the illegally appointed 'Special Counsel' Deranged Jack Smith, has brought a ridiculous new Indictment against me, which has all the problems of the old Indictment, and should be dismissed IMMEDIATELY," wrote Trump. "His Florida Document Hoax Case has been completely dismissed."

Trump called the re-indictment "merely an attempt to INTERFERE WITH THE ELECTION" and an attempt to "distract" Americans from "catastrophes" that he claimed, without evidence, his Democratic opponent Kamala Harris "inflicted" on the nation. Trump pointed to the U.S.-Mexico border, migrant crime, Inflation and the "threat of World War III."

"No Presidential Candidate, or Candidate for any Office, has ever had to put up with all of this Lawfare and Weaponization directly out of the Office of a Political Opponent," Trump continued. "They’ve Weaponized local D.A.s and Attorney Generals, and anybody else that will listen, to Interfere with the upcoming 2024 Presidential Election - Never been done before. This is now Kamala’s Weaponized System against her Political Opponent."

Trump appeared confident that the efforts will not succeed.

"All of these Scams will fail, just as Deranged Jack’s Hoax in Florida has been fully dismissed, and we will win the Most Important Election in the History of our Country on November 5th," he concluded.

Smith brought the indictment in response to the Supreme Court's ruling earlier this year that presidents have a presumption of immunity for acts carried out in their official capacity. The indictment removes references to Trump trying to exert corrupt influence on the Justice Department, as it would be impossible to field evidence for that under the court's new standard.

This comes shortly after Smith filed an appeal of the dismissal of the Mar-a-Lago classified documents case.
