Austin to limit parking at Commons Ford Ranch park for Labor Day weekend
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Commons Ford Ranch Metropolitan Park will limit vehicle capacity this Labor Day weekend to avoid overcrowding starting Aug. 30. Vehicles will not be allowed to park outside the gate's entrance, the City of Austin said in a news release Tuesday.
The city said once capacity is reached, no other vehicles can enter. Park Rangers will help direct traffic during this time, the city said.
The "modified parking" is in effect from Aug. 30 through Labor Day, Sept. 2, according to the city.
Overcrowding at park has been an issue before
KXAN previously reported on the overflow of parking and spoke with residents who live nearby.
There is one way in and out of the park, which is a narrow, two-way road that typically sees cars parked on both sides as people visit to take a dip in Lake Austin.
Neighbors previously told KXAN’s Dylan McKim that the problem is amplified during holidays when people try to look for events happening outdoors.
The city previously tested the modified parking during the July 4 weekend and said those changes were successful.
