NY Waterway ferry catches fire with passengers aboard; no injuries: officials
NEW YORK (PIX11) – A ferry on the Hudson River between New York City and Jersey City, NJ, caught fire on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
The boat, a New York Waterway ferry, caught fire with 37 passengers aboard, a spokesperson for the company said.
“A fire on our ferry boat, Father Mychal Judge, this afternoon was quickly extinguished, and the ferry is being safely towed back to port,” the spokesperson said. “There are no injuries among the 37 passengers on board.”
A video posted on Citizen showed the ferry emitting smoke, with multiple other marine crafts surrounding it.
The ferry boat is named after Catholic priest Mychal Fallon Judge, who was the first certified fatality of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
