Topeka man sentenced to 10 years in prison after deadly shooting of Olathe man
TOPEKA (KSNT) - A Topeka man accused of shooting and killing an Olathe man in 2021 received his sentence on Tuesday.
Katie Garceran with the Shawnee County District Attorney's office told 27 News Christopher S. Mendez, 24, is being sentenced to 120 months, or 10 years, in prison. This is in connection to the shooting death of 31-year-old Adrian Williams.
The Topeka Police Department were called just after midnight on Nov. 20, 2021 to the 2000 block of Southeast Pennsylvania Avenue on reports of a shooting. Officers arriving in the area found a large crows of people and a man on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound.
Medical personnel tried to revive the man, who was later identified as Williams, but he died at the scene. Mendez was later identified as a suspect and arrested by the TPD for first-degree murder.
The Shawnee County district attorney charged Mendez with first degree murder within days of the shooting.
