How Jacoby Brissett Feels About Patriots Starting QB Status

Head coach Jerod Mayo will have an interesting choice to make for Week 1, but the confidence in the Patriots quarterback room has not wavered.

Drake Maye built a solid case for himself to be New England's starting quarterback, but concerns regarding the offensive line have some fans in Jacoby Brissett's camp to be the No. 1 signal-caller to start the season.

Brissett on Tuesday was on WEEI's afternoon show with Andy Hart and Christian Arcand where he was asked if he was the starting quarterback.

"In my mind I am," Brissett said, per WEEI.

When asked if he would start against the Cincinnati Bengals, Brisseett replied, "In my eyes, I am. I haven't heard anything differently. So that's what I have to go off of."

Brissett updated the status of his shoulder injury noting his removal from the preseason finale was precautionary, and the veteran joked he hadn't been hit in eight months. The 31-year-old added that he believed he has put enough tape out there that speaks for itself and proves why he's "the right person for the job."

The decision will be up to Mayo and offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt as they weigh what is best for the Patriots.
