Donald Trump indicted again for trying to interfere in presidential election

Republican nominee Donald Trump has been indicted yet again for his efforts to overturn the last presidential election.

Trump was re-indicted by a federal grand jury in Washington, DC, on four felony charges linked to trying to subvert the 2020 election. Trump has been accused of inciting the deadly Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.

The 36-page indictment secured by special counsel Jack Smith on Tuesday afternoon includes the same four criminal charges he was hit with in the original indictment in August.

They include conspiracy to defraud the US, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding and conspiracy against rights.

However, it omits some allegations against him. It also has modified descriptions of allegations against Trump.

‘The superseding indictment, which was presented to a new grand jury that had not previously heard evidence in this case, reflects the Government’s efforts to respect and implement the Supreme Court’s holdings and remand instructions in Trump v United States,’ stated the special counsel’s office.

Smith’s superseding indictment represents his office’s effort to continue pursuing charges against Trump after the Supreme Court in July ruled he has some immunity in the election interference case.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges he faces.

The new document follows the original filing in arguing that Trump knew that lies he spread while trying to overturn the last election were false.

‘These claims were unsupported, objectively unreasonable, and ever-changing, and the Defendant and his co-conspirators repeated them even after they were publicly disproven,’ reads the indictment. ‘These claims were false, and the Defendant knew that they were false.’

The replacement indictment no longer presents a list of top Justice Department, homeland security and intelligence officials and White House attorneys who told Trump that his election fraud claims were untrue.

Trump did not immediately comment on the re-indictment on Truth Social or other platforms.
