Ben Affleck Has Reportedly Lost the Support of His Biggest Cheerleader in Jennifer Lopez’s Family

When Jennifer Lopez reunited with Ben Affleck in 2021, the couple had a major cheerleader rooting them on. Guadalupe Rodríguez, Lopez’s mother, was a big fan of Affleck’s, but she was reportedly disappointed with how he’s been treating her daughter amid their divorce.

“It’s got everybody, from her mom to her sisters to her managers, saying that he needs to be taught a serious lesson and shown he can’t just trample on people’s feelings and get away with it,” an insider told In Touch Weekly. “At this point, they’re all lining up to give him a piece of their mind, particularly Guadeloupe, who has been one of his biggest supporters, up until now.” They have encouraged the 55-year-old superstar to “start calling him out” on his behavior.

That is a far cry from June 2021 when Affleck cast his future mother-in-law in a WynnBET gambling app commercial he starred in and directed. The duo “enjoy gambling together and have done it in the past,” per an E! News source. “Guadalupe loves Ben and is happy that he is back in Jennifer’s life.” That happiness didn’t seem to last long because Rodríguez was reportedly giving Lopez marriage advice as things began to fall apart this summer.

When it appeared that there was no hope for reconciliation, Lopez’s 78-year-old mother allegedly started pushing her toward divorce, according to the Daily Mail. “Jennifer’s mom told her, ‘Cut your losses and move on to avoid getting any deeper in this mess.’ She told her that she’s wasted years believing that Ben was some kind of knight in shining armor,” the insider said in July. “He was not the person she built him up to be. It’s taken too much of a toll on her and because of this she has lost sight of who she is and what she stands for.”

It looks like Lopez took her mother’s advice and filed for divorce on Tuesday, Aug. 20, citing irreconcilable differences. The fairytale ending the “Jenny From the Block” singer had hoped for didn’t come true — and it’s a major jump from what Rodríguez said about Affleck on the Today Show in May 2023. “I knew that they would always get back together because I prayed for 20 years,” she gushed. It looks like the Lopez family has changed their tune about Affleck.
