Oasis Reunion News Sparks Jokes, Skepticism From Fans

0

Noel and Liam Gallagher have caused hell to officially freeze over by revealing that they are planning to reunite Oasis for a 2025 summer tour. But as the news hit an incredulous internet, many fans are not getting their hopes up, to say the least.

The brothers announced the reunion tour on social media early Tuesday, which will include four shows at London's Wembley Stadium, as well as stops in Cardiff, Edinburgh, Dublin, and the band's hometown of Manchester, England. Tickets go on sale on Aug. 31 for the tour, which will run from July 4 through Aug. 17, 2025.

"The guns have fallen silent," the band write in a rather cryptic social media post. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised."

The last time Oasis performed together was back in 2009. However, shortly after abruptly canceling a set at an August 2009 music festival near Paris, Noel announced on his website that the band had parted ways. "It is with some sadness and great relief ... I quit Oasis tonight," the message stated. "People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer."

In the decade-plus since, the famous brothers have traded barbs in the media, with Noel telling Rolling Stone just five years ago in 2019 that "Oasis is done. If you missed them, that’s f--king tough luck."

"I would imagine if he’s got any brains he’d be playing quite a lot of [Oasis songs] because his own music is dreadful," Noel, who was touring solo at the time, said of Liam's rival tour. "One of us is still trapped in the Nineties dressing like a fisherman like he’s going to go to Norway trawling for sardines. He makes unsophisticated music for unsophisticated people. It’s not really my thing, so there can’t be any competition."

It's unclear what may have transpired between the brothers to finally work through their bad blood, but with nearly a year until the upcoming tour, fans flooded to social media with jokes and skepticism

"Surely anyone who buys an Oasis ticket for any night apart from the opening night is taking a bit of a risk," posted UK-based TV critic Ian Hyland.

Others had similar doubts that the brothers could keep from personally attacking each other to perform the slate of shows, with one user reminding the internet of one particularly brutal online exchange from a few years back.

Still, at least some fans expressed cautious optimism for the upcoming tour.

It certainly will be interesting to see if Liam and Noel can put their differences aside to make an Oasis tour actually come to fruition. In the meantime, hopefully both brothers have undergone some apparently much needed therapy.
