British teen disappears off coast after going swimming with friends

A teenager from Britain is feared dead after she went missing during a swim near a beach in the Netherlands.

The 19-year-old girl was with three friends who were rescued near Zuidelijk Havenhoofd, at 8.30pm on Sunday.

All four of the friends are around the same age and are all from the UK.

The three of them tried to rescue the girl which caused them to get into difficulty.

An eyewitness said two of the boys had injuries to the legs and were covered in blood.

Their injuries were caused by being swept out against the rocky peer that forms the harbour.

An older woman who is reportedly the mother of one of the children was ‘panicking and screaming’ at the scene.

The eyewitness told Omroep West: ‘They both had legs covered in blood. There was also a mother there who was panicking and screaming.

‘The water was so wild, really impassable. Those boys barely survived.’

The search was being carried out by boat and helicopter and is now reduced to checking the shoreline in the hopes of finding her body.

Teams were also seen wading through the water with flashlights in search of the girl.

A crane was also used to look through the sea and around the rocks and a barricade was set up blocking access to the pier to ensure rescue teams could carry out a search.
