Cyprus hoteliers satisfied with August occupancy rates

0

August has seen high occupancy rates at Cypriot hotels, reaching or even exceeding 90 per cent in some cases, according to Hoteliers’ Association (Pasyxe) general director Philokypros Rousounides.

Rousounides noted that despite various challenges, including regional conflicts, economic downturns in the UK, and major sporting events, the industry remains resilient.

In statements to local outlet InBusiness, he said that “it seems we are operating at quite good levels, which are on par with or slightly above last year’s, demonstrating the resilience of the industry”.

“Despite numerous issues and challenges – including the regional conflict, the economic downturn in the UK, our primary market, the Olympic Games, and the European Football Championship – the number of arrivals has remained unaffected,” he added.

Rousounides also said that “this is a very positive aspect and perhaps highlights the pressing need to focus on the industry, invest in it, and support it to build solid foundations for the future”.

He added that “we must prepare to address other challenges such as climate change and the green transition, both through policy and specific actions from the public and private sectors”.

Finally, when asked about hotel occupancy rates the Pasyxe general director said that “in August, occupancy rates were around 80 per cent, and in some cases, they exceeded 90 per cent”.
