Cat poo carries harmful bacteria, which can cause damage to plants.

Taking to TikTok, DIY fan Becky revealed her tried and tested method for keeping cats at bay.

She said: “Here’s my number one tip if you, like us, have issues with neighbouring cats trying to use your lovely planters or pots as a blooming litter tray.

“Coffee grounds!”

Becky explained that all you need to do is take some coffee grounds, crumple them up, and spread them across the top of your soil.

“Apparently, the cats don’t like the smell”, she said.

Cats have a far superior sense of smell to humans, meaning that every scent is heightened to them.

So although coffee smells great to humans, to cats, it smells gross.

Becky continued: “Ever since we’ve started doing this we’ve had no more issues [with cats].

“It’s also meant to be really good for your plants too.”

“It has been a godsend for us. No more cat poo.”

Coffee grounds contain nutrients that plants need to grow, such as nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus.

Becky added that she herself has a cat, and decided that this method would be the best one to use “without injuring”.

Tips for keeping pests from your garden

  • Plant companion plants such as peppermint to repel rats.
  • Place Garden Netting Pest Barrier, over your flowerbeds.
  • Fill open-top containers with beer and place in soil to repel slugs.
  • Spray plants with Neem Oil, to repel ants, flies, and spiders.
  • Dust your flowerbeds with Diatomaceous Earth.
  • Mix 1 tablespoon dish soap, 10 drops peppermint oil, and 4 cups water and spray on flowerbeds.
  • Place eggshells around your plants to protect from slugs and snails.

Coffee grounds are super cheap, and you can pick them up from Tesco for as little as 99p.
